WesCEF recognises sustainability drives long-term business success and is fundamental to maintaining its social licence to operate. Ensuring the safety of team members, protecting the environment, investing in local communities and strengthening diversity and inclusion are key focus areas that underscore WesCEF’s operations.

The health and safety of WesCEF’s workforce is its highest priority. For the 2023 financial year, WesCEF’s total recordable injury frequency rate (TRIFR) reduced to 3.8.

Decarbonisation is one of WesCEF’s key sustainability commitments. Its Net Zero Roadmap includes an interim Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions reduction target of 30 per cent by the 2030 financial year, relative to a 2020 financial year baseline. During the 2023 financial year, WesCEF’s operational greenhouse gas emissions were 11.1 per cent below its baseline. WesCEF has progressed feasibility studies and engineering for projects that underpin its 2030 financial year target and continues to collaborate with partners to explore opportunities beyond 2030.

WesCEF’s approach to improving its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) team member and broader community engagement via recruitment, retention and inclusivity initiatives has maintained its ATSI team member representation at 3.4 per cent as of 30 June 2023.
