The IncludeAbility Employer Network
Kmart is a proud member of the Australian Human Rights Commission’s IncludeAbility Employer Network. As part of this network, Kmart’s NSW People and Capability team has partnered with the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Disability Trust to provide employment opportunities for people with acquired disability at four stores in the Illawarra region.
As part of the partnership, the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Disability Trust participated in a Kmart store tour to help build an understanding of the retail environment and available roles. In March 2023, the Australian Human Rights Commission facilitated two disability confidence workshops for participating store leadership teams. The workshops were designed to build knowledge and capability in order to foster an inclusive environment for team members with a disability. In addition, all team members at the participating locations were asked to complete disability confidence training, which is an online module created by Kmart and endorsed by the Australian Human Rights Commission’s IncludeAbility Network.
In April 2023, Kmart commenced a dedicated hiring process for participating stores, which saw seven team members with a disability hired and onboarded. All candidates were offered workplace adjustments as part of the interview and onboarding processes. These seven team members are now employed at three pilot stores, undertaking a variety of roles. Kmart is continuing to focus on building disability confidence across all levels of its teams.
