Wesfarmers Health - Climate change resilience

Governance and carbon awareness

Wesfarmers Health aspires to manage its businesses in a carbon aware way and recognises climate change has many, varied impacts on businesses, including supply chains, operations, team members, customers, communities, and the environment. Wesfarmers Health acknowledges it has a role to play in accelerating the decarbonisation of its supply chains and adopting strategies to prepare for the physical impacts of climate change.

In support of this, Wesfarmers Health has adopted a Climate Policy, which meets the Wesfarmers Group minimum standards and is currently rolling-out the requirements to each of its business units.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions baseline

Wesfarmers Health reported actual Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for the first time.

The majority of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions relate to the generation of purchased electricity consumed by the business’s facilities. Going forward, emissions abatement initiatives may involve energy efficiency projects such as LED lighting upgrades, rooftop solar and the procurement of renewable electricity.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 market-based emissions for the 2023 financial year were 11.6 kilotonnes of CO2e.

Scope 3 emissions

Scope 3 emissions relate to the production, transport, use and disposal of products and waste generated across Wesfarmers Health operations and value chains. During the year, Wesfarmers Health commenced work to understand its Scope 3 inventory. Recognising Scope 3 calculations are complex, in the coming year, the business will continue to deepen its understanding of Scope 3 emissions by increasing the transparency and accuracy of assumptions used in Scope 3 emissions calculations.

Scope 3 emissions for the 2023 financial year were 2.1 megatonnes of CO2e.

Emissions aspirations

Wesfarmers Health understands the importance of climate resilience and intends to undertake modelling and scenario analysis to support its emissions reduction aspirations during the next financial year.

Wesfarmers Health participates and contributes to the quarterly Wesfarmers Carbon and Energy Forums, along with the other Wesfarmers divisions. This allows Wesfarmers Health to sharing learnings and identify and leverage best practice across the Group.
