Kmart Group - Community
In the 2022 financial year, Kmart Group continued to work with local communities and charity partners to meet a diverse range of needs for families and team members. Kmart Group recognises the importance of its connection with communities and continued to support organisations and causes, including recovery from natural disasters.
In total this year, Kmart contributed around $6,300,000, Target $560,000 and Catch $218,000 to charities and community groups.
Kmart
Kmart customer support of its charity partners in Australia and New Zealand was significantly disrupted by customers not being able to access traditional fundraising tools in stores throughout prolonged COVID-19 lockdowns. For example, collecting spare change from customers, which has been a long-standing fundraising mechanism, was impacted by the community being encouraged to use electronic forms of payment, rather than cash, or shopping predominantly online.
Despite this, more than $400,000 was raised for Kmart’s charity partners, The Reach Foundation, Smiling Mind and the Graeme Dingle Foundation (NZ), to contribute to the wellbeing of young people and their families. Kmart also supported hundreds of grassroots community groups through donations of goods and gift cards.
Kmart’s sponsorship of GAMETIME through the National Basketball League enabled 109,100 students to participate in basketball clinics despite earlier COVID-19 disruptions to schools.
New methods to allow customers to give to The Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal were implemented, as well as the rollout of sustainable Point of Sale materials for the Appeal instore. Kmart collected over 173,500 gifts and raised more than $330,000 across Australia and New Zealand.
Kmart made a $200,000 donation to the GIVIT Foundation to help communities impacted by floods and storms in New South Wales and Queensland, alongside pallets of goods to numerous charity organisations working on the ground to support flood victims.
Internationally, Kmart continued to support the Salaam Baalak Trust, Swadha and Family Development Services organisations in India, while Kmart sourcing teams have identified organisations that will be supported in their region in the new financial year.
Target
Nearly $250,000 has been raised for Target’s new charity partner Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF), bringing to focus Target’s commitment to supporting women and families. The funds raised by Target and its customers go directly to ACF’s 'Bringing Up Great Kids' Program, which focuses on providing education and resources to vulnerable parents to help raise happy and healthy children. Target also made a significant $100,000 donation alongside pallets of goods to the GIVIT Foundation to help people impacted by floods and storms in New South Wales and Queensland.
Catch
Catch has profiled the important work of one community organisation each month and gave customers an opportunity to contribute to that organisation by ‘rounding up’ with their purchase. Throughout the year, Catch customers contributed more than $218,000 through this scheme.
